Preparation Day

Hello Bay Life,

Our bags are packed, our goodbyes have mostly been said, so now we wait until time to leave for the airport. It seems like the time has flown by since signing up for this trip in January but these last few hours are taking forever.

I have been asked if we will keep a blog while we are gone. It's a little late in the game but I will try to figure out how to set up and maintain a blog. Hopefully we will be able to post while we are gone and keep you up to date on our time in Africa.

We leave in the morning at 11:00 am for New Jersey. From New Jersey, we leave Friday evening and fly overnight to Brussels. From Brussels, we fly all day and land in Entebbe, Africa at 9:40 pm Saturday night. Sunday morning we will drive for approximately 4 hours (no ac, I understand!) to Gulu. We will divide into two teams there. The men will go on to the Village of Hope and the women will remain in Gulu.

I doubt anyone will be able to post until Monday sometime. For now, our prayer request would be for mercy at the baggage check-in counter and safe travel!

  1. Hello Bay Life Team! I am so excited that Johnna took the time to create this blog so that we can share in what God is doing in and through you while you are over in Africa. God is going to rock your world - Get ready! We will be praying for your travels (that's quite an itinerary you've got just to get to Gulu!). May God's mighty arm protect all of you (and your luggage!).

  3. Enjoy each moment, each experience, each personal contact, they all go by so quickly. Lord bless you guys. As I reflect on our trip half the greatest memories are from all the stuff that went wrong, so I really hope you have a couple minor things as a team to navigate :)!! I envy you guys, wish I could be there with you.

  4. We would only have to assume, of course, that the luggage was secured to the top and sides of the vehicle while the women were seated comortably inside (the vehicle, not the luggage) with air-conditioning engaged....the men jogging impressively and valiantly along side (barefooted) followed by a throng of locals excited to join the procession. By the way, how many miles is it from Entebbe to Gulu?

  5. It is good to hear that they do drive on that side of the world. although backwards. I-4 will never look the same during rush hour. We are excited and enjoying your journey. Naomi was expressing concern that other drivers did not know how to drive. I will share the news with the rest of the family. They will be overjoyed to read about mom. How many brake pedals did the van have? One per passenger? Keep writing.
